GEOSEA I

The inaugural GEOSEA was convened in 1972 at University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur by the four co-founding institutions: Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM), Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI), Geological Society of the Philippines and Geological Society of Thailand. The meeting was attended by about 280 geoscientists from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, as well as geologists from Europe, Australia and America.


GEOSEA II

GEOSEA II was convened in Jakarta by Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI) in 1975.


GEOSEA III

GEOSEA III was convened in Bangkok by the Geological Society of Thailand in 1978.


GEOSEA IV

GEOSEA IV was convened in Manila by the Geological Society of the Philippines in 1981.


GEOSEA V

GEOSEA V was convened in Malaysia in 1984.


GEOSEA VI

GEOSEA VI was convened in Indonesia in 1987.


GEOSEA VII

GEOSEA VII was convened in Thailand in 1991.


GEOSEA VIII

GEOSEA VIII was convened in 1995 by the Geological Society of the Philippines in Manila.


GEOSEA IX

GEOSEA IX was convened in 1998 by the Geological Society of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. Papers presented in the Congress are published in the Bulletin of the Geological Society of Malaysia.


GEOSEA X

GEOSEA X was convened in 2001 by Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.


GEOSEA XI

GEOSEA XI in was held in 2009. It was reactivated by the Geological Society of Malaysia under President Dato’ Yunus Abdul Razak, after a lapse of almost 8 years due to unforeseen constraints. GEOSEA XI was organized in Kuala Lumpur to mark the conclusion of the United Nations’ International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE), 2007-2009 which aimed to ensure greater and more effective use of the knowledge accumulated by the world’s 400,000 Earth scientists by society.


GEOSEA XII

GEOSEA XII in Bangkok, 7-8 March 2012 was organized by the Geological Society of Thailand (GST) in cooperation with Ikatan Ahli Geologi Indonesia (IAGI), Myanmar Geosciences Society, Geological Society of Malaysia, Geological Society of the Philippines and various national geoscience organisations. The theme of the event “Geoscience in Response to the Changing Earth” was selected to address geoscientific and strategic issues of common interest in the region and the world, especially the mega geological hazards, which are one of the greatest threats our planet is facing.


GEOSEA XIII

GEOSEA XIII was hosted by the Myanmar Geosciences Society from 10 – 11 March 2014 in Yangon, Myanmar. The event marked a new era of collaboration among geoscience institutions in the region, as it was being organized for the first time by the newest member of the GEOSEA family.


GEOSEA XIV

GeoSEA XIV was held in conjunction with the 45th IAGI Annual Convention “ASEAN Earth Resources and Geoscientist Role in AEC Era“ in Bandung on 10-13 October 2016.


GEOSEA XV

GEOSEA XV was hosted by the Vietnam in Hanoi by General Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam on 16 to 17 October 2018.


GEOSEA XVI

GEOSEA XVI was scheduled to be held in the year 2020 but postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic. It was hosted online by the Geological Society of the Philippines on 6 – 8 December 2021.


GEOSEA XVII

GEOSEA XVI is scheduled to be held in Langkawi, Malaysia on 17 – 21 October 2022. Details: https://geolsocmalaysia.org/geosea2022/
